Luke and Sarah are super awesome, down-to-earth conservationists and nature lovers. So it makes perfect sense to plan a gorgeous celebration at the Indian Springs Metropark Environmental Discovery Center in White Lake, Michigan! Moving here from Seattle, Washington so that Luke could take a job at the Detroit Zoo, we all had to plan in baby-steps and stages. Many of their friends traveled quite a distance to attend this Michigan wedding! The stunning simple beauty of this vegan wedding, and the joy of best-friends-become-lovers are the key elements of this early July celebration. Rather than “elaborate” or “extravagant”, Luke and Sarah’s event seemed to breathe easy with peace, kindness, and gentle loveliness!
I am rejoicing with them, and so honored to be hosting this art!
The guys (with the blessing of a sister standing on the Groom’s side!):
Just a few moments of getting ready, and then we snuck away for a couple of quick bridal portraits before the ceremony!
Look how laid back everything is! A lounging ceremony musician; a graceful, barefoot flower girl, and the natural decor of a few brilliant, living plants!
Rather than the traditional sand ceremony, or unity candle, Luke and Sarah re-potted a fern together! Love is a living, growing thing.
After the ceremony, they could relax together in private for some romantic moments.
The picture below on the right is just a fun outtake. We were actually looking for our next “scene” or setting. But I love the grasses, and the juxtaposition of bride and groom. It was casual like this all day!
Until, that is, we were photo-bombed by Luke’s brother and Sarah’s mom letting us know the guests were getting hungry!!!
What a beautiful venue this is, though! I love the warm wooden walls, and the light just pouring in from windows that stretch up toward a vaulted ceiling. Their cake was a work of art – again with a natural earthy theme – and yes, that is most definitely a light saber cake-knife and a happy little Star Wars reference at the end!
Congratulations Luke and Sarah! May your joy in one another never end!!!
