“Oooooh, a theater wedding!” Those were literally my thoughts when Brian and Rachel shared their wedding dreams with me. They talked about their love of all things nerdy; computers, gaming, rpg’s and fantasy, and in the back of my mind I’m thinking, “I LOVE these people, and I can’t WAIT to see their wedding!”
And now – I have the awesome pleasure of sharing it with you! Wait ’till you see all the cool stuff they did!!! To start, let’s (literally) set the stage:
Brian and Rachel were married inside of the amazing and wonderful Frauenthal Theater in Muskegon, MI. Her dress was a stunning Maggie Sottero. And, because this was a late March wedding (and the weather can be so fickle) Rachel had chosen and prepped three different bridal footwear options! But the day was a dream and the weather was grand. Look at this sky!!!
I had such fun deciding what to do with the rings. In the end I thought the groom’s d20 (confiscated during their Magic game) was too fun to pass up.
In the dressing room, a fun bit of gender bending was going on. Both bride and groom had choosen a member of the oposite gender to stand for them, so we had a Bride’s Man, and a Groom’s Maid to add to the party! His nails were painted a perfect match to the girls’ dresses; and the gorgeous – also matching – flowers are a credit to creator and designer Laura Truer.
Before the first look, the sight of the bride on the second story rail arrested us. Myself and my 2nd shooter for the day (the fabulous Alyssia Booth), preened and arranged and fussed until we got these breathtaking portraits!
The stage was set for the wedding. While we waited backstage, the men returned again to their games, and Alyssia and I got to collect images of all the great DIY details.
Immediately following the ceremony, this Pinterest inspired Battlestar Galactica image was created and achieved under the direction of the bride, and the talent of the bridal party. We only had a few minutes! They had all memorized their places well!
The team at Frauenthal turned the stage with masterful skill, creating in moments this completely new scene:
And the party began with the toasts!
To get everyone out to dance, Brian and Rachel had arranged for some swing dancing lessons for their guests!
But before we went, we had another half hour or so of creative fun. After all, events like this are once in a lifetime! And as long as you’re all dressed up, my dearest wish is to make you the supermodels you truly are on that day. What fun!
