FYI to brides still planning… writing your own vows makes everybody cry! Well, maybe they would’ve cried anyway. Every once in a while, I have the honor of working with a very traditional couple. This sweet, reverent Christian ceremony was officiated by Pastor Billy of Lake Center Bible church on Osterhout Avenue in Portage. Cassie and her girls got ready at Regis salon in Crossroads mall. (The guys were in the fun and colorful church basement). And a PHENOMENAL video of the event was created by Forever Fossilized. Check out the fun!
And THEN… on to a fun and well-hosted reception at Pine West in Kalamazoo! Pine West handled all the catering, including the gorgeous cake! And the party was mc’d by Mid Michigan Dj’s. (A word to the future dj’s and planning brides of Pine West… the banquet room we were in was VERY long. A third speaker set up with a tremendously long cable is a blessing in this venue for announcements. HOWEVER – the length of the room provides a comfortable separation between the dining area and the dance party. If you have older guests, or family from far, far away that need to visit and catch up, they will really appreciate that unique aspect of this location).
At the end of the night, we did a fun Bridal Party Tableau of exhausted bridal party members chillin’ with a sleepy bride and groom. Not really though! You can see the party continued on even after!
The grand finale, last song of the night: “We Are the Champions” by Queen!

Not only were they fun and professional (a husband/wife team). They are fast on delivery times, and their audio quality is SUPERB! I can’t stress enough – if you are hiring an independent videographer, make sure they understand both light and sound. External audio is so important to capturing the day effectively. These guys came with onboard RODE mics for both cameras, as well as external hand-held field recorders. YAY!!!
Flowers by Sharon Yantis of Floral Creations by Sharon. Lavender and Purple can be tricky colors for a florist, without using items that are avant-garde and trendy. I think Sharon did a lovely job here, respecting their traditional values and staying in budget.

For photographers: The getting ready scenes within Regis and much of the ceremony was shot with the Canon 135 f/2L USM. I find that lens has lovely color and allows me to get “up close” while the bridal party is still getting to know me, or the ceremony is in process. The rings were photographed with extension tubes on the 135 for an ultra-macro look, and the dance floor scenes were immortalized by the famous Canon 16-35 f/2.8L II USM for that WIDE angle party look! (For the more classic images, I also had with me the standard Canon 50 f/1.4, and the 24-105 f/4L IS USM).
